My English competence in 2013

My best oral evidence is the second, where I explains my research work.

I chosen these evidence because I think that in this presentation I use a large vocabulary and spoke quite well, without stoppages and answering well the questions from my colleagues.

I think I do well especially yoursays, because I speak about something that I like, or I'm interested and it costs less. So I believe that it would be better to do more yoursays and less news because people would do so with more enthusiasm.

My English progress from 2011-13

Comparing the first draft of the course, wich we sent to the teacher, and the last, that I have posted, there are improvement in: I use more connectors, I don't repeat many words and I use more variety of it.

And finally, regarding presentations, I believe that I speack with more fluency, and I have improved PowerPoint.

Off-road wheelchair offers freedom for disabled poor

Winter designed a wheelchair for por people with disabilities and can't afford to buy a chair of these.

This chair is designed for all terrains and have very cheap and common parts so that if one day breaks, these people don't have to spend much money and can easily find the parts and fix them selves, without the aid of a mecanic.

Winter is designing a chair as the LFC, but for people in developed countries, with more features and a higher Price tan 200$.

Finally, thanks to this protection organizations of people from in developing countries, can buy the LFC, for these people     who need it.

British Olympic sailor killed in capsize in San Francisco Bay

Andrew "Bart" Simpson, a british expert sailor, died on May 10 in San Francisco Bay during the training for the America's Cup.

He was the only one hurt in the boat. His colleagues say that when the catamarán capsized, they tried to  resucitate as quikly as posible Simpson, but the doctors of the salvation boat couldn't do it.

This boat is one of the most dangerous in the world, because is very light, big and can go at high speed. For it the boaters need to carry more protective elements tan other boats.

Bart won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, and a silver medal at the last year Olympic Games.

Finally, we can say that many people are affected by his death, because he had many followers worldwide and he have a family that can't believe that Bart is dead.

Banksy Slave Labour mural up for auction again

The mural called "Slave Labor" of Banksy, who was on a Wall of a London Street, the city where the artista painted, now be auctioned in Miami with other Works of: Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Mario Testino and Rusell Young.

This painting has already been auctioned before, but after people complained, returned to its original site.

Now also have recived many complaints, but surely this time if to be auctioned.

To finish, I believe that this mural not be auctioned, because isn't a private painting but is a painting published, because is located on a Street in the city of London and belongs to this city and its population.

The man who makes his living whittling wooden spoons

Barnaby Carder is a special person of London, that was apprenticed of a wooden furniture manufacturated.

He is dedicated to manufacturing spoons. He started to do this iin the Woods for 3 years, and when he had enough money he opened a store in Hackney.

Carder spends all day building spoons in front of the showcase of his shop. People who walk by the Street would like to see how it does, and if they like it, enter in the store and buy a spoon that cost between 12-15 $.

Finally, people sometimes think that he is crazy, because he is all day building spoons, but I think that any person when love to much do something he would want to spend all day making it and enjoy.

Is it ever right for a therapist to cry?

A study by Amy Blume-Marcovici, a clinical psychologist of the Alliant University in San Diego (USA), says that 3/4 of the terapists cried some day listening their patients.

She happened this, and she felt bad because she thought that maybe she had been unprofessional.

The study says that most of the patients have never seen  that their therapists were crying, and that therapists, that has happened this, could be experts or beginners.

The 30% of respondents had cried the last four weeks.

In conclusión, we can say that very often therapists cry, but their patients don't see them, because I think that this would give a bad view of their work, because might seem inexperienced in the subject.

Experts dismiss New Zealand 'sea monster' buzz

Last month a girl (Elizabeth Ann) found, in Pukehina Beach in New Zeland, a strange animal who was buried in sand.

The animal had a rare form, so is difficult to find that animal is. Elizabeth posted a video on YouTube, for experts give their opinión on that animal was. The video was seen by over 600.000 viewers, and people said it could be: a saltwater crocodile, a dinosaur, and even a sea monster.

Finally, the expert Anton van Helden said that the animal is a killer whale, because has almost all the features of this (a large head, tens of Sharp teeth and rudimentary flippers.

Aggressive Skating

 

Aggressive skating is a sport that is practiced in skateparks, or on the streets of the city.

To practice this sport just need special skates for aggressive skating, and depends on the terrain where you practice it, you also need wax to slide better.

The difference with the common skate is that the wheels are wider, and among the four wheels, there is a space to grind better.

The aggressive skating emerged in the 80s, and now California is where the sport is practiced more, but in almost every cityies there are people who practice it.

Finally, I must say, that this sport is hard to learn, because there aren't teachers to teach it, but learned alone, or looking like other more experienced skaters, and especially is difficult to avoid the falls, if you want to learn. But when learning new tricks, the satisfaction is great.

Gisela Pulido

Gisela Pulido since she was 9 years old in 2003, has been one of the best kitesurfers of the world.

She was born in 1994 in Premia de Mar (Barcelona), but later had to move to Tarifa (Cadiz), to practice kite as she studied.

She has won:
-8 times kitesurf world champion feestyle (2004-2011).
-4 times kitesurf world champion PKRA (2007-2011).
-Gold medal in Gravity Games (2005).
-Champion wave Master (2005).
-Junior European Champion (2003).

This year hasn't been the best for her at a competitive level, because she was third in the Worls Cup. But she can't say it's been a bad year, because it has also successfully written a book called "Without fear of falling".

Finally, she still lacks many competitions to win.

Sorbas

Sorbas is a village of Almería province, in Andalucia. It is located in 53 kilometers from the capital.

In this town celebrates one of the best Easter week of Andalucia. It is held at the beginnings of spring, and meets his inhabitants and the residents of the side. In this processions  the band of the village plays. This band is well known because plays in Murcia and Almería too.

Sorbas is known for his salt caves too, much visited by foreigners.

I really like Sorbas because there are my family and my grandparents live in Uleila del Campo (the village of the side).

I like go too, because the people who are are very different and views and ambience too.

Greetings, I am writing to let you know my opinión about the death penalty, because I think that this punishment does not respect human rights, but I do not know if should be allowed, to draw a conclusion, I want to make some questions:

 

When people are sentenced with the death penalti, are you absolutely sure of their guilt?

 

Can the culprits bid their last farewell to their families before they die?

 

The culprits can be dismissed from their families before die?

 

What actions are punished by the death penalty?

 

It depends on the answer, I will consider this penalti to be the appropiate one. When you kill someone if you do not know if he is guilty or not, In my opinion you can't kill this person. And depends on the actions that this person did, you can not kill him either and probably  you can punish him suffering like his victim.

 

In conclition, I can nott accept this rule until you answer this questions.

 

To finish with, I would like to thank you for reading my letter and, needless to say, I would still be more thankful if I could know your view on such an important issue.

Unnecessary Police Force at Peaceful Protests

In Azerbaijan staged a  demonstration in March 2013 were police used forcé to disperse them. The demonstrators were arrested and imprisioned or released some. Human Rights Watch said that they had free the imprisioned and suspended judgments.

The government of this country hasn't shame and not release the revolutionaries. But the Europeans were forced to release people, and opened an investigation in the actions of police.

A few days were demonstrations calling for the human right of assembly. In Catalonia violated human right recently when people met to reclaim the smooth running of the country and asked that they meet the standards.

• What are human rights ?

Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religión, language, or any aother status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all  interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.

•  Why were they created?

It was written because of the barbaric acts of World War II, and even World War I which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspirwhich have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common peopleation of the common people.

• How many human rights are there?

There are thirty articles when it comes to human rights. This is within The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

• Which human right were you not familiar with? Mention an example where this human right is respected and where it is not respected.

- This human right:

Article 11.
• (1) Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence.
• (2) No one shall be held guilty of any penal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a penal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time the penal offence was committed.

Because I think that the punishment mustn't be equal, and should be higher than he did.

- This human right is respected for example when someone breaks something public  and is forced to clean it.

- This human right isn't respected when someone kills one person and the punishment is the jail, because it is less.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is my favourite singer since I was a child. This singer was very successfull, but was a period of her life taking drugs and bringing a bad life. This stage of his life didn't allow him to have his children under her orders.

These problems solved quickly, and then she continued with her career. Britney during her singing career has many good musiques that have been very successfull and never will be forgeten.

In definetlly, Britney Spears is a singer who left signal and will left signal in music history, because her music is unforgettable like many other famous singers.

Study skills

All students have different ways of study. These techniques may be, went very well for some people but for others may not be effective.

There are people who takea a long time to find the best way, but there are people who from the first time as they began to study did using his best technique.

Many students make schemes wich is then used to study. Also there are students who don't need any scheme or summary and study directly reading the book or the notes. Finally, there are people who probably don't need study because being attentive in class are able to memorize the teacher's explanations.

Finally, the technique that I feel better is pay attention at the most of the things that the teachers says, and then I need to study, but I do it directly from the book, because the summaryes and the schemes I don't serve and I lost time of the study doing that.

Healthy life

For bring a healthy life, the first thing to do is eat a variety of foods, because eat too much or too little of one type of food we may end hurting. Symptoms of poor nutrition can be varied: fatigue, not be surrendered, dizziness...

The second thing that we must to do is doing sport, because when we practice some kind of sport we feel more comfortable and gives us energy. In addition do sport help us born calories faster, that our body doesn't need.

In conclusion, if we don't live a heathy life we will be much worse than a same person who live a healthy life and is much better psychologically and physically.

Summer or Winter

There are many different opinions in this topic, because everyone has different tastes.

First, there are people who prefer winter. These people usually choose this option for the hot time. They say that in winter you can cover you if you're cold, but in summer, if you heat it and you can't take off more clothes, there isn't solution.

Second, people who think that is better summer are disagree with others. They believe that in winter you always have to wear clothes and weight on, and if you have heat in summer you can swim in the pool or on the beach, and in winter you can't do it.

In my view, summer is better than winter. Because in the second season, the weather is always cold and black and you're more depressed, and in summer the weather usually is warm and bright, wich is better for me.

Internet and its users can change the world for the better

Internet is a global media that at the moment it is known by all the people  in the world , and it is considered an essential thing for living, and it can help a lot the people to be more intelligent. Can internet and its users change the world for the better?

There are people who think that internet only exists to do good things, but there are also epople who think the opposite and in their opinion internet only changes teh world for the worse. 

I belong to the first group. In my view, internet can change the world with good information, but at the moment it can give bad information too. This happens because you don't often know who wrote the news we read. 

Enough is enough: Say no to bullying

In U.S. there are many people who suffers the effects of bullyng. Anderson Cooper, a man who saw children who suffer bullyng in his childhood, has written some reports that serve to raise awareness for students and their parents.

In this reports Anderson has included a video, where appears people who have suffered bullyng. In this video there are students who have suffered bullyng and parents of  its victims.

The writer says that if we see someone who is being affected by this movement, we have to help them and tell : "Enough is enough !".

Finally, we can say that the only way to combat the bullyng is to oppose the aggressors or not to abandon or attack these people in the school or in the internet.

When the sun shines, Japanese women shave

In a interpretation of the poll by Dimsdrive was reaching the conclusion that most of the Japanese girls have large amounts of hair in their body.

Girls say that most of the hair, in addition to common areas, are in : the shoulder, in their feet, in toes and fingers and the neck.

According to the survery minority of girls shave for men, but most do it for themselves. And the survey of boys says that most of them don't care fall in love with a hairy woman, but there are guys who care this so much.

In summary, hair on women doesn't matter in Japan, but girls in summer have big problems to shave the hair.

This week in Barcelona opened the world's biggest mobile technology show where we can see many applications and new technological devices such as: Qualcomm, Nvidia, Sony Xperia tablet Z (watherproof), Safer, Ford Spotify, Firefox OS and the new Nokia 105.

This mobile technology show be heald each year until 2018. This show is too important for Barcelona, because attracts many visitors who bring benefits to the traders, and it gives fame to the city too.

In conclusion, this show not arm anyone but on the contrary this brings only advantages for the city and the innovators and inventors of new technologies.

Can you tell beef from horse?

The news says that in UK horse meat is inusual to eat, but there is a restaurant where serve it to the consumers and there are people who goes to the restaurant usually.

The journalist raises the question that if we eat horse meat or we may try.

In my opinion the horse meat should not be permitted because this animal like dogs or cats... is considerated a pet for to many people in the world.

In Spain actually have been tests and has demonstrated that meat that is buy on the market often get horse meat and we don't know it. In Spain when people has integer of this news the government has decided remove it from the market although the sale isn't prohibited.

In conclusion, I think that heardly anyone would eat horse meat.

What happened at Oscar Pistorius 'home ?

In 14 of February the famous athlete Oscar Pistorius who lacks the legs but also runs, supposedly killed his wife in their hous in South Africa.

At trial he ensures undoubtedly that he isn'y guilty and he didn't kill his wife. His family were presented to the trial as witnesses and they say that he can't be done it because he is incapable of killing anyone. But they weren't at the crime scene and their opinion probably not help to Pistorius.

In my view is guilty because he isn't severely affected by the death of his wife, and was the only person who was in the house that day with his wife. Finally I think that sure someone heard the shots that day because around the house there are more houses and neighbors.

I'll end up living under a bridge

Since 2006 in Spain there are an economic crisis which affects almost all the population. Most of the people who before could be considered that living well at the moment this population leving on the streets or don't have money for pay the food.

In this news of this video we can see the real life of the people in Spain and how can worsen, because this country is in a process of recession and it only get worse.

Many people do in the most important cities of Spain manifestations to protest for their rights and for the people who don't know how to govern and bring the state, because this governors only do things for the wealthier population and not for the people who really need it.

In definetlly, the poblation of Spain are really affected  by the crisis as seen in this video.

The animals of Santa Maria's church

I think that I could do this project more well. First, I could put more informetion of the church and the simbolism of the animals, but I don't have more time for do it.

The power point of the english presentation is did with  the original project in catalan, but I think that I could do this power more well because I use a wrong vocabulary, and in the lenguage of the presentation I don't have too much fluency.

Finally, after presentation I consider that my final note should have been a 6.
